Houston Superbowl XXXVIII Host Committee (2004)
Board member and part of the Community Relations and Minority Business Development Committee which was formed to ensure community participation and support for Super Bowl XXXVIII.
Foxshire Development (2002-present)
Board chair for this faith-based organization which is committed to serving a diverse group of youth, families, and senior citizens in the areas of social services, family health and education. Supported the goal of building a community center to provide a location for these services.
Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau (1995-present)
Board member from 1995- present. Executive committee member from 1997- present. Compensation committee member from 2000-2003. Served as chairman of the board from 2000-2002, and vice chairman from 1997-2000. The mission of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau is to improve the economy of Greater Houston by attracting conventions, tourism, film projects and international government officials to the area through sales and marketing efforts.
Hotel and Lodging Association of Greater Houston
Board member from 2001- 2002. Current member. HLAGH is devoted to representing the interests of the hospitality industry through education, political action, and member benefits that improve the financial position and public awareness of the industry.
Houston 2012 Olympic Committee
Served as a board member of this committee, working to secure the Olympics for the City of Houston until it dissolved in February 2003. Worked with the community and with businesses to develop local support for the Olympics.
Houston Area Urban League
As Chairman of the Board of the Houston Area Urban League, Mr. King directed a two-year effort to purchase the old Federal Reserve Bank building in downtown Houston to serve as the new home of the Urban League. The board also reduced operating expenses for the Houston Area Urban League, allowing a larger portion of donated funds to be used directly in the community, and for the maintenance of the organization’s headquarters. In addition, Mr. King was the force that created a new collaboration between the Houston Chapter of the NAACP, the Houston Alliance of Black Ministers, the Nation of Islam and the Urban League. This collaboration resulted in successful voter referendums for the Minute Maid Park and the Toyota Center resulting in 30% minority participation in both entities. These efforts resulted in 30% becoming the new standard for participation, leading to the creation of hundreds of new opportunities for minority-owned businesses.
Coastal Water Authority (1999-present)
Mr. King serves as a board member of the Coastal Water Authority, having been appointed by then Governor George W. Bush. He was reappointed by Governor Bush in December of 2000 to serve a second term. Reappointed by Governor Perry, he serves on the compensation committee developing management by objective plans for the CEO and CFO.
Intercontinental Airport Merchants Association (1991-1996)
Mr. King was the founding chairman of the Intercontinental Airport Merchants Association. This association helped business partners and vendors develop strategies for compliance with federal aviation rules as well as for joint marketing strategies. He was re-elected five terms as chairman and represented the minority businesses to the Aviation Department, Houston City Council, and various committees and chambers of commerce. He created purchasing strategies that allowed the minority partners to perform group purchasing on items from insurance to debt control. He assisted the managing agent in the selection of its minority business partners.
American Leadership Forum (Senior Fellow, Class 14) (1996-present)
Nomination Committee, Class of 1996 and 1997. Participated in a leadership training class on collaborative leadership skills.
Keep Houston Beautiful (Houston Clean City Commission)
Served as commissioner. Appointed in 2006 by Mayor Bill White. Through education and community partnerships, its mission is to foster resident and neighborhood awareness of the important role citizens can play in preserving the natural beauty and visual amenities of the city.
Houston Arts Alliance (Cultural Arts Council)
Appointed July 2006. Currently serves as Vice Chairman of Policy and Procedures Committee. Their mission is to encourage excellence in all disciplines of the arts through partnering with arts and cultural organizations, business and educational institutions; and to provide interactive creative arts opportunites; establish venues to showcase local artists; conduct outreach programs targeting the underserved; and to sponsor quality professional appearances.

The Inner City Nutcracker
Past board member. Provided financing and funding for training of inner city youth in theater arts for the holiday celebration of the Nutcracker Play, 1997, 1998 and 1999.
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
Mr. King was an inaugural board member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s Black Go Texan Committee, raising scholarships for minority students. He served 3 years.
Community Equity Awards
Mr. King founded the Community Equity Awards, Inc. This organization provided awards for those that helped build equity in their communities by volunteering and investing in their communities without regard for re-numeration. This organization lasted four years and was completely funded by Mr. King.
Texas State Restaurant Association
Past board member. Its mission is to be the advocate and indispensable resource for the food service and hospitality industry in Texas.
The Houston Restaurant Association
Past board member. Its mission is to ensure the health of the local restaurant industry and promote its growth through education, public awareness and governmental affairs.

Past board member. Its mission is to promote and stimulate business development and community involvement.
The North Houston Frontiers Club
Served as club secretary and was a 20-year member. The North Houston Frontiers Club, Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c) (3), service organization, dedicated to providing educational and monetary assistance to talented, deserving students in the greater Houston area.
Citizens for a Better Houston
Chairman of community outreach for the successful campaign "Citizens for A Better Houston Zoning", 1994 to 1995. Provided community outreach strategy to kill a city ordinance for zoning because of the detrimental effect it had for some small and minority businesses.
